Us and Our Community

US

There has been a youth Club running out of the Village Hall in Strachur in one form or another for the past 40 odd years. Offering sport and recreation activities, arts & crafts and all sorts of fun trips and adventures for the children of our community.  In 2001, after requests from children passionate about performing and the lack of local access to Performing Arts for children, Strachur & Dist. Youth & Drama evolved.  We are a constituted voluntary group, organised by a committee of community members made up from parents, carers, grandparents and friends of SYD members.

The events organised to raise funds for SYD projects and to cover costs, are vital to the running of the club.

We could not provide the amazing facility of the clubs to the children of our community and the wider area without this assistance, and we very much appreciate all the support we receive, from attending productions, getting involved in helping out, sponsorship and joining in the fund-raising, we could not be here without you.

Friends of SYD

We have been lucky enough to have some well needed practical help, in the midst of all this creative drama! and have come to rely heavily on our 'Friends of Syd'.  From making scenery and props, and driving vans collecting strange objects from dark warehouses in Glasgow, to making even stranger costumes and running up light rigging we are exceptionally grateful to all of them.  As you can imagine our larger productions take enormous collective effort when we have sound, music and lighting to consider, along with stage dressing, logistics, chaperoning and catering (probably the most important cog in the wheel).  For every job we have a 'Friend of Syd' who is happy, willing and sometimes even able to bring their time, expertise and enthusiasm to the role.  We could not do what we do without them.

Thank you to all our 'Friends'. xx

You

We have the most amazing support from our community, it makes me feel so proud to be a part of somewhere that values their young people so much, and shows it when it is asked of them.  Our Productions and Events are sold out time and again, and we can guarantee to get the help we ask for backstage night after night at all our shows!

Community

is a strong feeling in our Drama Family, and we are privileged and delighted when invited to participate in community events.

Often at the forefront of productions and shows that are showcasing a section of our community or celebrating a part of our heritage,

Strachur Youth Drama play an enthusiastic

centre role taking part in, and giving back to

our community.

Collaboration

Partnering with adult community group Strachur Fun-Raisers, we have shared the stage for co-productions on many occasions to great success such as our latest

Christmas Extravaganza.

Our 2018 Production of

Peter Pans Marvelous Adventures

was our biggest and most successful yet and was thoroughly enjoyed by cast, crew and our fabulous audiences.

Funding from Creative Scotland

certainly gave us the opportunity to design the set, lighting, sound and costumes that had a big impact on our ability to produce a show worthy of the great praise we received.

And boy did we all have a great time, but then we always do!!

The role the Fun-Raisers play in our community has always been an active, selfless and truly Fun one and we are always delighted to work together with them on community projects.

With lots of plans for future collaborations, we will notify of future opportunities if you feel you would love to be involved in the Adult group, the only requirement being the willingness to give things a try and the ability to laugh at yourself!

Amazing bunch of people!
