'The way we look at it it's like this...

A child participating in our club can take two paths - one path is the opportunity to build confidence and self-belief, to think in a positive way about themselves and their teammates, and to achieve self-development and transferable life skills at their own pace.  All achieved using drama games, improvisation, role-play, dance and song in fun, fresh, imaginative ways on a weekly basis.

The second path is one of learning the many creative and practical skills needed to produce a piece of drama or musical theatre that is performed to a live audience.  From all the skills and technique it takes to act, to staging a production, this path takes commitment to a role on the part of the child whether a main acting role or a walk-on.  This comes with a greater understanding of the need for collaboration, for determination, for motivation and a positive attitude. It comes with a greater understanding of who they are, and it comes with a passion of performing that can last a lifetime.

Each path is interchangeable, each path will cross the other at different times and different ages, each path can run parallel, but the enormous benefits to our children have been proved over and over again.'

aboutus

In 2010 Mother and Daughter team, Sheena & Kirstie Dowse, after recognising a gap in the provision of Performing Arts in the area, started Strachur Youth Drama under the Umbrella of Strachur & Dist. Youth Club, a successful partnership to the present day.

10 years later, we have grown our club with fantastically dedicated volunteers, into an amazing Performing Arts centre of excellence, and enjoy immense popularity among our members and our community.

We run age and ability appropriate classes for children of all school ages which includes acting, singing, dancing, film and music in many forms, genres and styles.  Performing to large public audiences, outdoor venues, intimate intense plays to musical theatre showcases, winning competitions and accolades, confidence building and fun remain at the heart of all we do.  Our whole team is voluntary and our club is funded mainly by the pupils themselves, and involvement in fundraising events forms part of the fun and feeling of 'family' .

See our website for details on classes, events,

shows and fund-raisers.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you prefer to chat with a member of our team directly.

I had spent so many Saturdays for years,  up and down the road to Glasgow to take Kirstie to her Drama Club, it was with a lot of empathy that I understood the need to provide an excellent Performing Arts facility in a local base.  So many children find their way to our Club who are so like Kirstie, passionate about learning to act, or sing or dance or just let their spirit flow, and so many parents are happy to find  a high quality provision in a local setting rather than having to commute.  I am so delighted Kirstie decided to return here after studying acting to help start our club and bring her skills and a love of  the craft .
